I purchased myself a EEE-PC 1000HE

Let me start by saying it is fantastic, it is still quite small has the same power as the previous model (901) and has a battery life of 9.5 hours somthing ASUS call ‘All day computing’

It has all the features of the previous model which are:

• SD/MMC Card Reader
• 3 USB 2.0 Ports
• Integrated 802.11b/g/n Wireless
• Integrated Bluetooth 2.0
• 10/100 Wired Lan
• 1.3 Megapixel Webcam
• VGA Out
• Headphone/Microphone Jacks
• Windows XP Home SP3 (Standard)

I have installed a multiple boot setup with XP Pro, Windows Vista Ultimate and Windows 7 Beta

Hardware Specs:

• Intel Atom N280 1.66GHz CPU
• 2 GB RAM (1 Standard)
• 250 GB HD (160 Standard)
• Intel Mobile 945 Express Chipset (DX 9 Support)

I can start simply by saying I love it in every way; it is small, powerful enough to do the job and has a fantastic battery life of 4-6 hours.

It is as feature packed as a normal laptop with:

• SD/MMC Card Reader
• 3 USB 2.0 Ports
• Integrated 802.11a/g/n Wireless
• Integrated Bluetooth 2.0
• 10/100 Wired Lan
• 1.3 Megapixel Webcam
• VGA Out
• Headphone/Microphone Jacks

The only flaws I can see with the EEEPC 901 as with all Ultra Portable laptops is:

• Screen Size
• Keyboard Size

I find the screen on the EEEPC to be a more then decent size (1024×600 Native) and having the ability to go in to extended (1024×768) helps for application that don’t quite fit on the native resolution.

Conclusion:

I highly recommend this Laptop to anyone who needs a small, reliable, mostly web browsing laptop with good battery life. It would also be well suited to people who travel a lot, overseas or interstate as it is easy to carry, sadly the carry case it comes with is less then desirable as it comes with no strap or anything similar.

And it is really simple…i signed up in about 2 seconds all you need is a live account and that’s it.

Above is the device select where you can choose to Live Desktop or a computer to access or add a device to Mesh.

Above is the live desktop where you can access all the files you have uploaded. After the installing of a 1.5 MByte Client you can set the computer to sync a folder to Live Desktop so say for school/work files you can always access them where ever you are Provided you have a Internet Connection. This obviously presents interesting features in terms of backups, i means you will always have atleast 2 copys of any file you choose.

Also remember, the picture above is from a browser, to get an interface like that no client software is required.

They did indeed get their world record, congratulations I guess, I still use IE8 myself, but all the same, good work. Read about it here.

Frankly I prefer the old 2005 model (which I still primarily use) it had

• More ‘G’ keys (some argue that 18 keys and 3 banks is too many, I don’t)
• Spin wheel volume control
• Bigger LCD
• Bigger in General
• Brighter Backlight LEDs (from what I can tell)

One of the ‘additions’ to the new model is that it now comes default (but changeable) inverted which makes things look extremely crap in my opinion.

And with the new smaller size of the screen all programs go to the extreme edge of the screen which to me, makes it look cramped (see above) compared to the old model with it’s 2-3 pixel  gap at the edge (see below).

I supose it is worth mentioning it is slightly cheaper about $88 retail compared the the 2005 models arround $100 from what i can remember.

Anyway, a good keyboard, now used on my secondary computer, the one i posted this on.

IIS7 also makes good use of the 512 MB NTFS RAMDisk that i actually store the website files on and combined with IIS7 ‘FastCGI’ provides extreme file read/write times.

But in some cases it does take some adjusting, it took me a while to realise where they moved the port settings for the website to but once found it did seem like a nice place for it.

And of course the interface is FAR superior with a much more seamless flow to it as opposed to IIS6 which just felt like a crap version of Windows Explorer. I suppose one of the reasons I like the interface more is that is has got more of a ‘Vista’ feel to it (I like Vista) which runs smooth.

The Server has also had an extreme Hardware Upgrade, mainly because Server 2008 wouldn’t install on the old hardware, from:

• Intel Pentium 3, 800 MHz
• 768 MB Ram
• 40 GB Hard Disk
• 120W Power Supply
• USB 1.1, obviously

To:

• Intel Pentium 4, 3.2 GHz
• 3 GB Ram
• 120 GB Hard Disk
• 350W Power Supply
• USB 2.0, Yay

I suppose that was what contributed mostly to the speed increase but I am sure ‘FastCGI’ at least added a bit.

I supose to sum it all up, i like Windows Server 2008, much more then Windows Server 2003 R2.

Physics wasnt as hard as i expected.

GAT was piss easy but i think it’s suposed to be.

Yeah, that’s right. They’re gonna attempt to get most downloaded software in one day for a world record!
